A woman indicted with stalking Kate McCann allegedly left her a voicemail message which posed: "suppose I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, 24, who witnesses stated has repeatedly declared she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard communication data and evidence obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most publicized investigations and continues to be open.

'I Don't Want Money'

A separate phone message, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I believe what I believe."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I'm her? Then what? Wouldn't that be important for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the message continued.

The panel was informed that through emails, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a bid to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with the police force who collated the data, advised the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with close associates of the McCanns, as per the communication logs.

On that date, Gerry McCann answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."

During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording saying "I won't give up and I plan to establish my claim."

The court learned Mrs Spragg established a association via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' home in the county in that winter.

Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out via communication app to Mrs McCann to say the press had depicted Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the months before the appearance to that location, the county, in last December.

The court was told message exchanges between the two accused, in that autumn, considering attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from utensils at a dining venue.

"We have to take action," the co-defendant informed Ms Wandelt.

On the occasion of the trip to their residence, the defendant dispatched a communication which expressed: "We're currently sat adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark similar to detectives. I had hoped to achieve this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."

The proceedings continues.
