Players looking forward to the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait much longer. An free-to-play trial experience is set to release on January 7th, providing a generous look into the game's opening hours. Notably, all progress achieved within this demo is eligible to be carried over directly into the main game upon its eventual release.

Beyond Just a Straightforward Remake: A Complete Transformation

This project constitutes a ground-up reimagining of the iconic 2000 JRPG, first known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a significant step away from recent series remakes, like the recently released HD-2D iterations, this version utilizes a striking 3D visual presentation. The world appear to look like detailed miniature worlds, with party members featuring a delightful stylized look.

"Even with the previous port, the main quest was remained notoriously long. Therefore, we reached a conclusion that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] craft an adventure for contemporary gamers."

Major Gameplay Changes and Modernizations

The development team have implemented several changes to refresh the classic experience. Among these are:

• Streamlined Overworld Encounters: Inspired by modern role-playing games, low-level monsters can now be dispatched instantly on the field without entering a separate traditional battle sequence.
• Variable Combat Speed: Players have the option to speed up combat animations to quickly get past simpler fights.
• Expanded Job System: One completely new job class was created for this remake. Additionally, characters gain the capacity to take on a secondary vocation, greatly expanding customization depth.

These changes seek to mitigate one of the 2000 title's common points of feedback: its immense length. The initial adventure could easily take over 100 hours to see through. The new edition has been specifically reworked to refine progression and reduce any repetition.
