Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has joined the Championship side just seven months after instigating derogatory taunts directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has signed a deal with the Championship club in difficulty until January. His seven-year time with Leeds finished by mutual consent this past summer.

One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading insulting chants about Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Now, the former England international will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to rescue the team he loves away from the bottom places.

Previous History Between the Striker and Wilder

The pair had previous conflict before Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

All appears has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford looking to revive his playing days.

The Wilder chant went viral in April. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”

Recent Career Challenges

The forward featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
