The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:
- Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
