The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
