The Streaming Platform to Bring a Popular Game TV Show from the Producers of the Alien Series and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The newest Far Cry game that gamers dived into was Far Cry 6, which starred Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the villain, Antón, and debuted on October 6, 2021. Throughout the franchise, it is known for celebrating action and insanity with the same enthusiasm, all while telling gripping, politically driven tales. No wonder then that the network’s recent announcement for a Far Cry limited-run show attracted two visionaries whose creations have represented all of those things.
What to Expect
Based on Ubisoft's popular video game franchise, the short-run anthology series is set to premiere on Hulu and is being made by FX Productions. The show will also parallel the video games' structure by introducing a different setting and ensemble in subsequent series.
Executive Team
Rob Mac, mastermind of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the visionary behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as showrunners on the series through their companies, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
“FX has had excellent collaborations with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are thrilled that they are working together for Far Cry,” commented Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a announcement. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is innovative, engrossing, and extremely entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our associates at Ubisoft for entrusting us with this popular property.”
Cast and Future Plans
Mac will also star in the show, but as of now, we have no details on what character that might entail. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently renewed for more episodes, with FX and Disney agreeing to a new comprehensive agreement with the producer.
“Being able to collaborate alongside Noah Hawley is a goal achieved,” stated Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly generous, trusting us with one of the most renowned video-game realms ever created. And along the way, my FX partners continues to lift me up with their steady belief and assistance.”
“The aspect I admire about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology-style program. Each game is a take of a theme, the same way every run of Fargo is a version on a premise,” said Hawley. “To develop a big action show that can evolve from season to season, while always exploring the nature of society through this complex and chaotic viewpoint, is a dream come true. I’m thrilled to collaborate with Rob and introduce our mutual irreverent, daring sensibility to the audience.”
A release window for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has not been announced. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
