Tragedy Strikes as Unintentional Detonation at Police Station in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Takes Nine Fatalities
A devastating blast at a security post in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has led to the fatalities of nine people and wounding to thirty-two more, according to police declarations.
The occurrence happened when a stockpile of confiscated explosives inadvertently exploded during processing activities.
Sequence of Occurrences
The detonation happened on Friday evening at the Nowgam law enforcement facility, where blast substances taken from Faridabad region in the northern state of Haryana were being held provisionally.
Local security director declared that the explosives were pending technical investigation when a "deeply regrettable" mishap during processing caused their detonation at approximately 23:20 in the evening.
Police Declarations
Law enforcement officials confirmed that this was an "inadvertent blast" and rather than a terror incident. "Any other speculation regarding the origin of this incident is unwarranted," emphasized the security director during a press briefing.
The police station experienced extensive destruction from the blast, with nearby constructions also being impacted by the intense detonation.
Aftermath and Fatalities
Multiple vehicles were "consumed by fire and reduced to charred husks, with fragments distributed across the site," according to police accounts.
"The power of the detonation was so powerful that some human remains were recovered from close-by residences, approximately 100-200 metres away the law enforcement facility," reported an police contact.
The majority of the victims were security officials, along with scientific examination staff, two evidence documentation specialists, and a clothing professional who was with the team.
Administration Response
The region's Administrative Head conveyed condolences and declared that an inquiry had been ordered into the tragic incident.
"I have commissioned a probe to establish the origin of the unintentional blast. Deeply anguished by the fatalities of important persons due to profoundly sorrowful unintentional explosion at Nowgam law enforcement facility in Srinagar city. My condolences to the grieving relatives. I wish for rapid recuperation of the wounded," wrote the official on online channels.
